- Services: GRP and Gelcoat | Paints & Varnishes | Metalwork - Steel & Stainless | Chandlery
Island Rascal arrived at the yard with significant damage to the bow, including a large hole that required extensive GRP repair work. Restoring the yacht’s structural integrity and original form was the primary focus of the project.
The repair process began by rebuilding the damaged area and re-establishing the correct hull shape using GRP. Once the structural shape was regained, external GRP repairs were carried out to strengthen and prepare the surface. To access the interior of the bow for further reinforcement, a section of the deck moulding was carefully cut out, allowing the team to complete the internal GRP work effectively.
With the structure fully repaired, the external finish was applied. The hull was coated with a blue gelcoat, while the bow topside received a white gelcoat to match the yacht’s original appearance. After curing and finishing, the bow equipment was refitted, including the bow locker lid and pulpit.
Final touches completed the restoration: the vessel’s name was painted back onto the exterior, and a new rope fender was fitted to finish the bow area.
The result was a fully restored and structurally sound bow, returned to a clean and professional finish.
